Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t.</p> <p>This worked, but like I said, it was a bit of a challenge.</p> <p> </p> <a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-UCYPypEsPzo/VlJQr6FYmaI/AAAAAAAAJvM/eta9kVGDya4/s1600-h/IMG_5764%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_5764" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_5764" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-zkjqccQKls0/VlJQsVEU94I/AAAAAAAAJvU/iP8WQ7gUXGs/IMG_5764_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="604" height="808"></a> <p> </p> <p>Using different fabrics in addition to wool is always fun and making different sorts of flowers just makes me smile.</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-38px7aRDf9Y/VlJQtPCriJI/AAAAAAAAJvc/ENPSgLTBPsI/s1600-h/IMG_5757%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_5757" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_5757" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-QNYJqsSNGsQ/VlJQt8sVOeI/AAAAAAAAJvg/FhVS9QZr13M/IMG_5757_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="604" height="808"></a></p> <p>I love the sparkly spandex!!!</p> <p>I also love the velvety looking lavender polyester on her snout!</p> <p> </p> <p><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-KhOFlb8exGc/VlJQuagep_I/AAAAAAAAJvo/JLfcqUQhbMk/s1600-h/IMG_5762%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_5762" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_5762" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ZzuWo875kfg/VlJQu3fn7tI/AAAAAAAAJv0/xn3j4DxQ3nU/IMG_5762_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="604" height="808"></a></p> <p>She looks a little sad and forlorn, don’t you think?</p> <p> </p> <a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-djXs65ZsOXc/VlJQvlzuhqI/AAAAAAAAJv4/WwsWVHJBHuY/s1600-h/IMG_5758%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_5758" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_5758" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-2WU6ID0pmN4/VlJQwOdqdYI/AAAAAAAAJwA/YpM07X1Dsgg/IMG_5758_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="604" height="808"></a> <p>I also chose a fun fabric for her backing…….what a girly dog!!!</p> <p> </p> <p><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-1_FXyX_aHcc/VlJQwkIFIfI/AAAAAAAAJwM/0yu04MRwNOI/s1600-h/IMG_5761%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_5761" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_5761" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-70DzQMMkiPM/VlJQxXdC4lI/AAAAAAAAJwU/vWt8NzKgMP4/IMG_5761_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="604" height="808"></a></p> <p>How is the time change affecting you? (was not open to general public when we went, so in essence we got</p> <p>a sneak peek)!</p> <p>The Bachman-Wilson house was moved from New Jersey to this spot in Arkansas.</p> <p>You can see a video of the home <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ax-XzbRorgU" target="_blank">HERE</a>.</p> <p>It was a beautiful day!!!</p> <p>She also got us tickets to another special exhibit:</p> <p> </p> <p><img src="http://crystalbridges.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/pta-website-header.jpg" width="600" height="309"></p> <p>Here are a few of my favorite pieces from the special exhibit as well as the pieces in the normal museum</p> <p>exhibit.</p> <p>I wish I could have taken a picture of this complete set of sketches….it stretched out for at least 10-12</p> <p>feet.</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-im7r5Rrz55I/VkNv4N6T1dI/AAAAAAAAJqk/uDMW6hK7qRI/s1600-h/IMG_5699%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_5699" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_5699" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-p7tvL3IFIOo/VkNv4hetXAI/AAAAAAAAJqo/GwSK5CexARU/IMG_5699_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="604" height="234"></a></p> <p>It was an example of how artists would go and explore and sketch in their sketch books and then </p> <p>come home and paint pictures of places they had been. As well as having handymen come in work on the “to-do” list….you know</p> <p>all those little things that just start to add up…..a light switch that sticks, doors that stick, patching</p> <p>a hole in the ceiling, putting new weather stripping around the doors.</p> <p>As if that is not enough, I’ve pulled all of the silver trees out of the attic.</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ow0xQjzhbws/VkO4lAD2rVI/AAAAAAAAJuM/-3FwbTCas1A/s1600-h/IMG_57224.jpg"><img title="IMG_5722" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_5722" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-0bcH_yLMxtA/VkO4lyWhM4I/AAAAAAAAJuQ/uxLScUVLzWo/IMG_5722_thumb1.jpg?imgmax=800" width="604" height="731"></a></p> <p>I think there are 8 or 9 trees. They still need to be arranged and fluffed up. You can also see the big </p> <p>mirror leaning against the sofa…..also re-painting the mantel as well and then that will be put back.</p> <p>Another thing on the list……fruitcake! </p> <p>Hope to start making that tomorrow.</p> <p>Thanks for stopping by.</p> Tammy Burkshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11693566894522334908noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1474606792449710183.post-15176276829359981252015-10-23T08:02:00.001-07:002015-10-23T08:04:42.300-07:00Shedding<p>I don’t know about you but autumn makes me feel unsettled.</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-4O_thmGB2oI/VipMB77oPiI/AAAAAAAAJp8/LLORNupCVtQ/s1600-h/IMG_5670%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_5670" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_5670" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-tJ881PXPOIQ/VipMC5-T7iI/AAAAAAAAJqE/Q1CyEUV571A/IMG_5670_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="604" height="808"></a></p> <p>(a beautiful tree in my neighborhood)</p> <p>I want to do more, make more, but I feel like first I have to shed the STUFF in my life that is no longer working for me.</p> <p>A week or two ago I went into my closet and got rid of LOTS of things!</p> <p>Actually, when I started I was just going to put away my summer things and get out my fall clothes.</p> <p>Somewhere along the way I had stumbled onto the idea of a “<a href="http://theeverygirl.com/how-to-create-a-capsule-wardrobe" target="_blank">capsule wardrobe</a>”…..having 37 things that you wear for a season (3 months).</p> <p>It doesn’t have to be a hard and fast rule of 37 things, but it’s basically paring back your wardrobe to pieces that you love….pieces that you can mix and match with each other.</p> <p>This doesn’t include pj’s, work out clothing, etc.</p> <p>I have about 5-6 pairs of scrubs that I wear to work during the week, so that was easy (and I don’t count those).</p> <p>I have several pieces that I wear to work out in….shorts, tights, tee’s, etc. (those don’t count either)</p> <p>What I did come down to in my capsule was:</p> <p>9 pants (5 pairs of jeans and 2 pairs of dress pants).</p> <p>These are my favorite jeans! Pilcro Flare Stet from Anthropologie bought</p> <p>last year.</p> <p><img src="http://images.anthropologie.com/is/image/Anthropologie/4122462170178_094_b?$pdp-detail-shot$"></p> <p>14 tops (bought one new top at Loft outlet for $12….very similar to pic below)</p> <p> <img src="http://richmedia.channeladvisor.com/ImageDelivery/imageService?profileId=12017974&id=842865&recipeName=pdlg643x740" width="500" height="575"></p> <p>1 sweater</p> <p>1 cropped sweater that has hounds on it…..LOVE!</p> <p>7 jacket/cardigans</p> <p>2 skirts (1 long bought on sale at Anthropologie 2 years ago pictured below, 1 short….the short skirt is bronze and totally sequined….probably won’t wear it much, but I just love it and couldn’t pack it away just yet!)</p> <p><img src="https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/d9/59/c8/d959c80c94daca3656a1266f0569ab2d.jpg"></p> <p>9 pairs of boots/shoes the ones pictured below are my most recent purchase. Bought at Marshalls for $29.99!!</p> <p>(this does not include my work shoes/ workout shoes)</p> <p><img src="http://a1.zassets.com/images/z/3/2/9/9/3/8/3299382-p-MULTIVIEW.jpg"></p> <p>My total ended up being 46…..not 37, but I think that is good for a start!</p> <p>(Confession: I ironed all the tops before hanging them up…..and enjoyed it)</p> <p>I put my out of season clothes in a suitcase, gave pieces that I no longer wore or loved away and I still have one bag of clothes that I will donate.</p> <p>Shedding feels good!!!</p> <p>Working with what you have feels good and I feel that it makes me get more creative with how I put my clothes together for an outfit, plus I just don’t stress</p> <p>as much over what I’m going to wear. I know that whatever I have in my closet is something that I love!</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-PQpJij83NSI/VipMDa4Bx1I/AAAAAAAAJqI/ko_ypcoewps/s1600-h/IMG_5671%25255B7%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_5671" style="border-top: 0px; There were pieces that were</p> <p>old, such as these hand-beaded moccasins from the 1890’s</p> <p><img src="https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/7/7c/Man%27s_Moccasins%2C_Plateau%2C_probably_Nez_Pierce%2C_Idaho%2C_c._1890_-_Nelson-Atkins_Museum_of_Art_-_DSC09074.JPG/800px-Man%27s_Moccasins%2C_Plateau%2C_probably_Nez_Pierce%2C_Idaho%2C_c._1890_-_Nelson-Atkins_Museum_of_Art_-_DSC09074.JPG" width="600" height="450"></p> <p>to newer pieces such as these hand-beaded heels designed by Hawaiian-born artist Jamie Okuma </p> <p>who beaded them with glass and 24k gold-plated beads in the tradition of American Indian moccasins.</p> <p><img src="https://ayearofpics.files.wordpress.com/2012/12/killer-shoes_edited-1.jpg?w=1200" width="600" height="450"></p> <p>I think that anytime you make something by hand you have a much greater appreciation for the time</p> <p>and commitment that these items take to create. I’m fascinated that so many years ago when people</p> <p>were hunting for food and preparing food and tending to their children that they had time at the end</p> <p>of the day to sit down and create these wonderful works of art that were part of their daily lives</p> <p>or used in ceremonies.</p> <p>Another work of art that was astounding was this piece created by <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQRS7f1lu2I" target="_blank">El Anatsui</a>.</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-bDy-_O_T3j8/Vgf_9q_RmVI/AAAAAAAAJnk/gevl59CZ0Jk/s1600-h/IMG_5595%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_5595" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_5595" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-v5VA5QHSqRk/Vgf_-aCqrXI/AAAAAAAAJns/Ip65JvU0Lbc/IMG_5595_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="604" height="808"></a></p> <p>It’s hard from the picture above to appreciate how large this piece is…..</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-qn82v_-dpiM/Vgf_-4U7twI/AAAAAAAAJn0/w3X_rYAuI4M/s1600-h/IMG_5593%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_5593" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_5593" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-6T3OFFmu_V8/Vgf__XWLacI/AAAAAAAAJn8/_MP3-KmeI1k/IMG_5593_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="604" height="808"></a></p> <p>In this photo, I tried to capture people standing below it to give you a better idea of the scope of this piece.</p> <p>Other pieces that spoke to me:</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ys7j9nJz-oE/VggAAZ25aoI/AAAAAAAAJoE/nkQ24d5K1NA/s1600-h/IMG_5579%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_5579" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_5579" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-acFeH4EZnF4/VggAAyjI3KI/AAAAAAAAJoM/1tmnwYZ9ZO8/IMG_5579_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="604" height="452"></a></p> <p>This is a painting of Natural Bridge, Virginia…..I visited this when I went to school in Virginia.</p> <p>Yes, it’s really that beautiful and awe inspiring.</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-yThIts0dC1w/VggABiqx1nI/AAAAAAAAJoU/hR3SLWnAl-s/s1600-h/IMG_5582%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_5582" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_5582" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-pxXKekCUANY/VggACXWZYNI/AAAAAAAAJoc/ottknZin_S4/IMG_5582_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="604" height="808"></a></p> <p>To me this symbolizes how lonely it must have been for women settling in the prairie. Mine were not as pretty as the picture, but I’ll definitely make</p> <p>them again!</p> <p> </p> <p>I’m also seeing some sort of whimsical dog rug in my future! Here are a few pieces of art work that</p> <p>inspire me….</p> <div><a href="http://www.houzz.com/photos/4686153/Love-Dachshunds-Hotdog-Reclaimed-Wood-Vintage-Wall-Art-transitional-prints-and-posters"><img border="0" src="http://st.houzz.com/simgs/0b0129a803f22b1e_8-6299/transitional-prints-and-posters.jpg" width="500" height="354"></a></div> <div style="color: #444"><small><a style="text-decoration: none; color: #444" href="http://www.houzz.com/photos/transitional/prints-and-posters">Transitional Prints And Posters</a> by <a style="text-decoration: none; color: #444" href="http://www.houzz.com/professionals/furniture-and-accessories/c/New-York--NY">New York Furniture & Accessories</a> <a style="text-decoration: none; color: #444" href="http://www.houzz.com/pro/kathykuo/kathy-kuo-home">Kathy Kuo Home</a></small></div> <div style="color: #444"><small></small> </div> <div style="color: #444"><small><img src="https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/ff/f1/3b/fff13b4ef71b4c25f85bf973c17b1d60.jpg"></small></div> <p>Bird Dog by Jenny J. I just got in my ProChem swatch book and </p> <p>thought to myself, what could I mix together from what I have to get what I want?</p> <p><img src="http://www.prochemicalanddye.com/catalog/msl_swatch_book.jpg"></p> <p> </p> <p>This is what I came up with…….</p> <p>1tsp bright orange </p> <p>1/4 tsp + 1/8 tsp bright red</p> <p>Mixed this in 1.5 cups boiling water with citric acid</p> <p>Added 1 cup of the solution to the dye pot and then added (4) 1/4 yard pieces of pre-soaked wool.</p> <p>2 of the pieces of wool were plaids and 1/2 yard was a light solid</p> <p>The plaids got to the color I needed right away, so I pulled them out and then drizzled spoonfuls</p> <p>of the remaining 1/2 cup of dye onto the solid pieces, so they would be even more mottled.</p> <p>I spooned and flipped, spooned and flipped. When those solid pieces got to the intense mottled color I wanted,</p> <p>I added the 2 plaid pieces back in and let them simmer until all the dye was taken up.</p> <p> </p> <p>I’ll share pictures of the hooking tomorrow.</p> Tammy Burkshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11693566894522334908noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1474606792449710183.post-58256465871767774492015-03-30T05:13:00.001-07:002015-03-30T05:13:32.536-07:00Finding the Mojo<p>After months of marinating</p> <p>or frittering</p> <p>or just a downright </p> <p>creative rut…….</p> <p>I think I’ve found my </p> <p>creative mojo again!</p> <p> </p> <p>I’ve finished hooking my monarch pillow…..</p> <p>I’ll share that with you once it is actually</p> <p>made into a pillow <img class="wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-smile" style="border-top-style: none; border-bottom-style: none; border-right-style: none; border-left-style: none" alt="Smile" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-ba8iGBlilBg/VRk9xme-qdI/AAAAAAAAJcQ/ayeT1E_f0XA/wlEmoticon-smile%25255B2%25255D.png?imgmax=800"></p> <p> </p> <p>Yesterday I pulled out more of my hooking supplies</p> <p>to make a moose rug for my good friend Angie….</p> <p>she wants her moose to be a deep orange/red!</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-1zVaAN69hgQ/VRk9yVHMFmI/AAAAAAAAJcY/N1Ur2hGlvss/s1600-h/032%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="032" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="032" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-JZDuHrWDKrs/VRk9zJr1WUI/AAAAAAAAJcg/up8TFMZtTXk/032_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="554" height="414"></a></p> <p> </p> <p>That happens to be a color I love, but I don’t seem to have quite the right color in my </p> <p>stash, so that will give me a chance to get out my dye pots……</p> <p>something I haven’t done in a long, long time….</p> <p>can’t tell you how excited I am about that….</p> <p>I’ve already got the wool soaking!!!</p> <p> </p> <p>I also took time out yesterday to work on a project that has been marinating in my mind for quite some time.</p> <p> </p> <p>We have a quilt, just a pretty quilt from TJ Maxx, that we’ve had for several years, but it’s taken quite a bit</p> <p>of abuse from Buzzbee….he likes to “dig” and “nest” before he settles in.</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-IfQQG66tc3o/VRk90F_nzgI/AAAAAAAAJco/FbIwHRRXcAo/s1600-h/034%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="034" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="034" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-ZzKSfCtsbGs/VRk90-N50RI/AAAAAAAAJcw/TS2qQtUdVFw/034_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="554" height="741"></a></p> <p> </p> <p>So now, it has several tears in it. I could just donate the whole big king size quilt to a thrift</p> <p>store or animal shelter, but I like how soft it’s gotten over the years, and a bit faded….I’m embracing</p> <p>it’s age! Maybe this is something we do more often the older we get.</p> <p> </p> <p>I’ve had a vision of covering all of these tears (there are quite a few) with silhouettes of swallows.</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-N-heetEo9Rc/VRk91WgrhQI/AAAAAAAAJc4/s3C_EJXSjEs/s1600-h/035%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="035" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="035" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-eIcJ_k-76vY/VRk92UoszqI/AAAAAAAAJdA/LcjTA3RbG-U/035_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="554" height="741"></a></p> <p>I “googled” swallow silhouette and just freely drew this on freezer paper and then fused</p> <p>it to some dark blue wool.</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-ZObDHP4l7eg/VRk93KEbDvI/AAAAAAAAJdI/ywQJjriCuaY/s1600-h/036%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="036" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="036" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-46Qr79-JOE4/VRk935wVQhI/AAAAAAAAJdQ/1w91RfFlFvM/036_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="554" height="741"></a></p> <p>I then cut around it and pinned it over the tear, then proceeded to whip-stitch it down with</p> <p>embroidery floss.</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-pmfP-91DcNA/VRk94mtqy_I/AAAAAAAAJdY/srGca9-etoQ/s1600-h/037%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="037" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="037" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-f5rtlfkx_RI/VRk95biMpWI/AAAAAAAAJdg/MGTcUCYDZaI/037_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="554" height="741"></a></p> <p>Part way through the stitching I ran out of the color I was using, so I switched from a blue</p> <p>floss to a gray.</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-tdNlcALA8dY/VRk96B7PsiI/AAAAAAAAJdo/WY8v-rRu4Fc/s1600-h/038%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="038" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="038" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-_ZmVPd3fMw0/VRk96jCivbI/AAAAAAAAJdw/gKx9TPXsXmI/038_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="554" height="741"></a></p> <p>This will be a bit of a “make-do” / “re-do” project. I’m going to try to stay with the colors</p> <p>of the quilt, so by the time it’s finished I will have all different colors of swallows stitched with</p> <p>all different colors of floss.</p> <p>Of course doing just this one bird took me about an hour, but it’s not about the time,</p> <p>this time it’s about the journey.</p> Tammy Burkshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11693566894522334908noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1474606792449710183.post-5510621222701048232015-03-20T04:45:00.001-07:002015-03-20T04:45:16.473-07:00Iced Coffee and Friends<p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-ZmsXKb7Yo2k/VQwIRwe6NMI/AAAAAAAAJbo/wOeQQ1CV060/s1600-h/sketch%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img title="sketch" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="sketch" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-teKmyOjBODs/VQwISkz5UHI/AAAAAAAAJbw/Ld3hfTpyndY/sketch_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="554" height="771"></a></p> <p>Had a lovely time on Monday sketching with friends over iced coffee and smoothies.</p> <p>Great way to wind up the day.</p> <p>If you get a chance to stop by </p> <p><img src="http://www.go2b2.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/New-B2-Logo-Clear-Background-with-Shadow-e1423456739328.png"></p> <p>in Springfield, Missouri……DO!</p> <p>This little place has a great vibe, wonderful coffees, great staff,</p> <p>and they are always displaying local art work.</p> <p> </p> <p>It’s kind of a no-brainer for my sketching group.</p> Tammy Burkshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11693566894522334908noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1474606792449710183.post-24172164391401434582015-03-18T16:41:00.001-07:002015-03-18T16:41:48.402-07:00The Greens<p>I know I haven’t posted a recipe in quite some time.</p> <p>This isn’t exactly a RECIPE per say, it’s just a great, easy way</p> <p>to get your greens!</p> <p>When I was growing up, the only vegetables I ate were corn, potatoes and green beans.</p> <p> </p> <p>Seriously!!</p> <p> </p> <p>My parents weren’t big vegetable eaters, so they didn’t really push veggies at my </p> <p>brother and me.</p> <p> </p> <p>Yeah, I was one lucky kid…..no liver, no icky veggies I didn’t like.</p> <p> </p> <p>I didn’t really experiment with any other vegetables until I got married.</p> <p> My husband’s mom and dad put out a garden, so she was always cooking up some sort of vegetable,</p> <p>so I would always give it a go and try what she had cooked (I learned the “trying” from my</p> <p>grandfather…..he got me to try shrimp, oysters on the half shell and he is the reason why I’m a total</p> <p>seafood lover….he also got me to like fried okra. I still like pretty much anything fried)</p> <p> </p> <p>Thanks to my MIL I now love all kinds of vegetables…..the only one I really still dislike is brussel sprouts and raw celery.</p> <p>I’ve tried brussel sprouts roasted, steamed, sauteed, sauced, you name it, I’ve tried it and still can’t tolerate them!!</p> <p> </p> <p>Tonight I made kale chips.</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-02C27d_9GyQ/VQoNHDZIvyI/AAAAAAAAJaM/Du6cLZbHIVY/s1600-h/IMG_5094%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_5094" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_5094" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-zU8kmfanapo/VQoNH72JpAI/AAAAAAAAJaU/tA5SFyuhy1I/IMG_5094_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="554" height="741"></a></p> <p>I’ve made them before, but just wanted to share how much I love them and how awesome they are </p> <p>(well, awesome for a snacky veggy)……</p> <p> </p> <p>All you have to do is remove the tough stem from the kale, then toss them with some olive oil </p> <p>or grapeseed oil, </p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-dNbiXb1WnuM/VQoNI9RU06I/AAAAAAAAJac/zQpCcbhP0bs/s1600-h/IMG_5086%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_5086" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_5086" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-QW17iRnIv4U/VQoNJlvPXDI/AAAAAAAAJak/B-5c6irwd9o/IMG_5086_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="554" height="741"></a></p> <p>then I like to sprinkle a little salt or parmesan cheese on them. Tonight I just</p> <p>used salt.</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-OEI9Lt8W-Gk/VQoNKiapwII/AAAAAAAAJas/yYFZ8nJ-ZIg/s1600-h/IMG_5085%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_5085" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_5085" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-P0JPYY_0CwY/VQoNLZ24dTI/AAAAAAAAJa0/p0E2_n5hlsE/IMG_5085_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="554" height="741"></a></p> <p>Put them on a foil lined cooking sheet and cook them at 300 degrees for about 15-20 minutes</p> <p>or until they get crisp.</p> <p> </p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-3SYneB1KWE8/VQoNMD6JnPI/AAAAAAAAJa8/ZA5OLrnjMTk/s1600-h/IMG_5087%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_5087" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_5087" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-mDRhtLfdlyk/VQoNNOdkIgI/AAAAAAAAJbE/PHfv5Oqe9_0/IMG_5087_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="554" height="741"></a></p> <p align="left">BEFORE</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-qPNXDedjB6M/VQoNNywJ3KI/AAAAAAAAJbM/cdyz_tSHRUE/s1600-h/IMG_5091%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_5091" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_5091" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-r4Fth6DR7Y0/VQoNOt0nkkI/AAAAAAAAJbU/B4E2KaRE_gY/IMG_5091_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="554" height="741"></a></p> <p>AFTER</p> Tammy Burkshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11693566894522334908noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1474606792449710183.post-79354234304957260542015-03-15T15:57:00.001-07:002015-03-15T15:57:59.845-07:00Frittering<p>Here lately I feel as if I’ve been frittering my time away.</p> <p>You know how easy it is, you sit down to watch a tv program after work,</p> <p>get on Facebook, Pinterest, etc.</p> <p>Before you know it, the afternoon is gone and you’ve accomplished nothing.</p> <p> </p> <p>Sometimes nothing can be good, we all need a chance to unwind, but days</p> <p>on end of nothing, is well, </p> <p>just</p> <p>nothing.</p> <p> </p> <p>I’ve been stuck in this rut for a while.</p> <p>Today I made better use of my time…..still relaxing and unwinding, but</p> <p>taking time to hook on the rug I’m working on,</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-kcFqPeT7BMA/VQYOcuEvr0I/AAAAAAAAJZw/HqRuqyu7G04/s1600-h/IMG_5079%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_5079" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_5079" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-ew_BMA1ZGks/VQYOdhE4KZI/AAAAAAAAJZ4/CLgl1glq-7E/IMG_5079_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="554" height="661"></a></p> <p>and finish a book I started yesterday.</p> <p><img src="http://img1.imagesbn.com/p/9781439193310_p0_v2_s260x420.JPG"></p> <p> </p> <p>Do you have favorite ways of unwinding?</p> Tammy Burkshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11693566894522334908noreply@blogger.com3
